The Ultimate Guide to Modern Style of Decor

What is Modern Decor?

A heritage of clean lines, geometric shapes, clear spaces, function, and storage are the key elements that shape modern interior design. From Scandinavian minimalist designs to the richer and bolder contemporary forms of rustic modern minimalism, the most recognized and influential design philosophy was created by the German Bauhaus school of Design during the 1920s. The design aesthetic was founded on the belief that form should combine with function.ย

We have curated a small and concise way to impart information about what exactly modern style decor is, and what it takes inspiration from!

ย

Scandinavian minimalism refers to the simple, uncluttered, and unpretentious decor that originated in Scandinavia. The style, characterized by neutral or muted colors and simple shapes and lines, relies on carefully selected accessories, such as artwork and furniture. Scandinavian decor is usually stripped of all ornamentation and character elements; it is considered more important to create a welcoming environment rather than one that expresses an individual's taste.

The modern style of decor is often confused with the contemporary style due to the superficial similarities, but there are some key differences between the two that differentiate the two. Modern Style design is associated with the late 1800s to early 1900s. Modern decor often follows what is called 'form follows function'. This means that the decor's physical looks should convey the intended purpose of the said piece.ย

ย

On the other hand, the contemporary style is more fluid. Decor pieces are often ornamental with no real utility. While modern decor favors neutral shades, contemporary style favors blacks and whites. Modern style is strictly from the 1900s to the 1950s, while contemporary design adapts with time and changes over time.
